Location: Miami, FL
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM
Pay Rate: $15.00/hour

Position Overview

The Freedom Lab is seeking a dependable and community-minded Day Shift Security Guard to help maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for staff, tenants, and visitors. This role is about more than guarding a building, it is about supporting a community space rooted in safety, respect, and restorative values. The ideal candidate will be attentive, professional, and able to respond calmly and effectively to incidents, while also showing empathy and care for the diverse individuals who use our space.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct regular patrols of the building interior, exterior, and parking areas to ensure safety and accessibility
Monitor security cameras, alarms, and access points while respecting the dignity and privacy of community members
Greet and assist visitors, tenants, and partners with a friendly and professional demeanor
De-escalate conflicts and disturbances using communication and restorative practices before resorting to enforcement

Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or safety concerns, including medical or building-related incidents
Document and maintain accurate logs of daily activity and incident reports
Secure doors, gates, and restricted areas when required
Communicate safety or maintenance concerns to site management in a timely manner
Assist in emergency procedures, including evacuation support and coordination with emergency services if needed

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum 1 year of security, safety, or community support experience preferred
Valid Florida security guard license (or ability to obtain)
Ability to remain alert, observant, and professional throughout the shift
Strong conflict-resolution and communication skills with an emphasis on de-escalation and respect
Demonstrated ability to interact positively with diverse groups, including youth, elders, and marginalized community members
Must be reliable, punctual, and available for consistent daytime shifts (with flexibility for occasional weekend or evening events)

On-site training in Freedom Lab safety protocols and restorative approaches included
Must be able to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods
Must be reliable and able to work all 7 days of the week or a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays
